Since I set up my first website www.silver4sell.com, it has been 6 month.
During the past 6 month, I have made about 10k USD.
I have to say that work at home is a pretty easier job, every one can do it.
You can do it too.
Here I would like to share some of my experience about how to set up your own online business.
First: You need to set up a website.
Well, if you have no experience about website designing or hosting, it might be a little scaring and don't know where to start at the first place, but things are very easy to learn.
I don;t have a clue about website designer and website hosting at all, but after about 6 month practice, I find it is not so hard. The first thing about set up an website is that you need to find a website hosting company, they can provide you hand-by-hand guide about how to set up a OScommerce website. My website was host by ixwebhosting.com. The reason why I choose an US webhosting company, it is because that most of my customers are from USA and European countries. So I was thing it might be faster for the customers to visit my website if we choose the target country. It cost me about 107 USD to set up this new website.
Setting up website it is only the very first step towards an online business. You need to spend a lot of time to do SEO, to let people get to know your website. This is not a overnight business, you will need continuously effort. I don't have any experience on website SEO, totally a new area for me, so I am still working on it.
The second step about setting up your own online business is to find a good supplier and good products. How can you stand out from thousands of people selling the same type of products?
Take my website as an example, www.silver4sell.com, I sell a lot of silver jewelry, many designer celebrity jewelry, like tiffany, etc. , for sure many of you will say that selling replicas is not a good idea, I can not agree more. However, everything exist should have a reason, after I investage the market, I find there are many many people actually looking for replica products, handbags, jewelry, everything, and I happen have a very good supplier who can offer me very good price. I am pretty sure that my price and products are stand out from about 90% wholesalers.
Here I have to say that you have to follow the market rules. Don't kill your customers profit margin. As for me, I set my price at 3 levels, first, normally price on our website, this is for customers those who place sample order below 500 USD, which is about 20% high than the wholesale price. Second, the catalog wholesale price, this is for regular customers who place order among 500-2000 USD. Third, is a special quotation for manufacture order, some customers would like to produce designer inspired jewelry without logo, their order are usually quite large ones, like 100 or even more per style. More important, they order quite frequently. For this kind of customers, you need to offer a very specific price, which can not even be competite by other suppliers. Why we have to do this? Because you have to think for your customers, you can only sell more when your customers; business keep growing. If you sell your jewelry at a cheap price for small orders, there would be no market for them, and even you get more orders, but you will be totally exhausted by the small orders. You are potentially kill your wholesale clients.
Third, I have to say that service is the key to maintain your business and keep it growing. Always think in your customers; shoes. Sometimes, I do send my orders before I collect the payment, even it might be risky, but, I always believe that there are some poeple we could trust.
Also, honesty is always the cornerstone in any business. Dont lie to your customers, they will find out sooner or later.
Last, always back up your website and prepared for unexpectedness, this is also important for those who selling replicas jewelry as me. I first have my website www.silver4sell.com, and for some copyright reason, it piss off John Hardy, so I have to remove all the items. I am not sure if I can add them now, but I am not will to risk, so I move most of my products to my new website www.silver4sell.net.
